A little herb garden, a lovely new habit

There is something rather special about growing a plant from seed. One day there is a pot of growing medium; then, with a little patience and care, the first green shoot appears. GrowWithCoir® Mini Herb Garden brings that experience within reach, with a simple kit designed to make the first steps enjoyable.

Whether it is basil for a sunny kitchen windowsill, thyme for a little herb collection or rosemary for a longer-term growing project, children can take part in sowing, watering and caring for a plant of their own. It is a thoughtful activity to share — and a lovely introduction to the herbs we use in everyday cooking.

What’s inside the kit?

• One coir growing pot
• One expanding Coir Vital Grow® growing-medium disc
• One pack of herb seeds – choose basil, thyme or rosemary
• One plant label

Simply provide water and a suitable place to grow. The selected seed variety determines the growing conditions, germination time and eventual plant size.

Why choose GrowWithCoir®?

• A real growing experience: sow the seeds, check moisture and notice changes from day to day.
• A small project to enjoy together: suited to parents, grandparents and children exploring gardening.
• A gentle introduction to kitchen herbs: connect growing with familiar scents, flavours and food.
• Coir-based growing medium: the disc expands with water, introducing children to an interesting natural plant fibre.
• An easy gift to give: a compact gardening activity for birthdays, school holidays or a weekend at home.

Choose your herb

Basil – an appealing choice for a bright, warm growing spot; a familiar herb for young kitchen gardeners.
Thyme- a lovely introduction to aromatic herbs, with small leaves and a more patient growing journey.
Rosemary –  a rewarding longer-term project; germination can be slower and less predictable than basil.

How to get growing

• Place the coir disc in a suitable container and add water gradually. Allow it to expand, then loosen the growing medium.
• Fill the coir pot with the prepared growing medium, leaving a little room at the top.
• Sow the selected seeds following the instructions on their packet; sowing depth varies by herb.
• Add the plant label and position the pot somewhere suitable for that herb’s light and temperature needs.
• Keep the medium appropriately moist, without leaving the pot standing in water. Watch for seedlings and adjust care as they develop.
• When the plant has grown sufficiently, move it into a larger container if required and provide suitable plant nutrition as it develops.

Adult help is recommended for younger children. Seeds are not for eating; wash hands after gardening. Germination and growth depend on seed variety, temperature, light and care.

A little gift with something more to it

A GrowWithCoir® kit is not just something to open. It is something to return to: checking for a new leaf, noticing a scent and learning that good things often take a little time. Created for curious growers, with the support of CoirProducts® – coir specialists for British growers since 2015.
