With the UK government banning the sale of peat in horticulture, coir is recognised as a sustainable alternative to peat. A report by The Wildlife Trusts has highlighted that the extraction of peat for horticulture in 2020 alone could release up to 880,000 tonnes of CO2. Thus, making the shift to peat-free products such as coir is becoming even more important.
CoirProducts.co.uk 5kg coir potting mix block is a completely natural, biodegradable, and peat-free product. These compressed blocks give over 75L of coir when hydrated and can be used for growing various plants and crops. They come with a range of environmental benefits, including helping plants grow stronger and healthier root systems.

Why choose CoirProducts.co.uk coir potting mix?
Coir is a genuine waste material of the coconut industry. The natural and organic fibrous material that is used to make our coir potting mix blocks, bricks, and discs, lies between the outer husk and the inner hard shell of the coconut. Our products are manufactured in Sri Lanka, and being carbon neutral, we also offset the carbon footprint associated with transporting products to the UK. In addition, each compressed block or brick of CoirProducts.co.uk coir potting mix gives a large volume of coir when expanded, which means, there is efficiency in transporting these products.
CoirProducts.co.uk coir potting mix also helps improve the soil structure and increase organic matter. As our CoirProducts.co.uk coir potting mix decomposes into the ground, it benefits the soil over time, helping roots grow stronger. Our coir potting mix is also highly absorbent. It retains water and has excellent air porosity, while also facilitating drainage. Such natural properties of our coir potting mix helps plants grow stronger and healthier root systems.

A great thing about our coir potting mix is that it is versatile and easy to use. To use, place the block, brick, or disc in a large enough container. With the large 5kg block, you can place them in a wheelbarrow or a large enough bucket. Add sufficient water (as a guide, for the 5kg block, add 17-20L of water), and let the mix expand (as a guide, the 5kg block will take approximately 30 minutes to expand). Once expanded, stir and mix and coir, and you are then ready to use! Add the coir potting mix into our coir pots or use on the ground (of course, depending on the weather and the requirements of each plant), and place your seeds. Provide adequate water and nutrients.
