Spring is an ideal time to get a start on your sowing and growing. With plenty to do in the garden, this month is also Peat Free April, which is all about encouraging growers and gardeners to move away from peat-based products to more environmentally-friendly growing media. In this week’s blog post, we take you through our popular, peat-free coir potting mix range.
Eco-friendly and safe for the planet… coir is a sustainable waste product of the coconut industry. Our coir potting mix is completely natural, biodegradable, and free of the more harmful peat moss. It’s also vegan-certified.
Plants benefit from the natural properties of coir… our coir potting mix has excellent water holding capacity, air porosity, and drainage. Adequate air porosity helps plant roots breathe, and absorb the much needed water and nutrients.
Value for money… our coir potting mix comes in compressed blocks, bricks, or discs. This means, they are not only easy to store and move around, but they also expand when hydrated, giving a large volume of fluffy coir.
There is something for everyone… when we first started our retail shop, we sought to make a diverse range of product varieties easily accessible for all. This is why we are happy to provide a wide array of sizes of coir potting mix blocks, bricks, and discs. Our coir potting mix blocks and bricks come in the following sizes: 300g (4L), 650g (9L), 3kg (40L), 5kg (75L), while our coir discs come in sizes of 4cm (75ml), 5cm (250ml), 7.5cm (500ml), 10cm (1L), 13cm (4L) and 18cm (9L).
Versatile and easy to use… a great thing about our coir potting mix range is that it is ideal for sowing and growing various plants and crops. You can also use it indoors or outdoors. It is also easy to use – just add water and let the mix expand, stir and fluff the coir potting mix, and you are then all ready to use it! As a guide, the 5kg block would require 18-20L of water, and when expanded, provides over 70L in volume of coir, while the 650g brick provides approximately 10L in volume.
Ethically produced and sourced… all our coir products are made with the utmost care and concern for people and the planet. Ethical business practices are followed throughout, and there is minimal harm on the environment in producing or using them. We are directly involved in the manufacturing process, so unlike others, we know exactly where our products come from and how they are made.
