If you love to use herbs in cooking for that added flavour, growing your own herbs will give you a generous supply of fresh herbs. While herbs usually need a sunny spot, there are still a variety of herbs you can grow over winter. Growing your own herbs is also economical. And you don’t need too much space to grow them… a good spot on your windowsill or kitchen would do.

Herbs to grow

Festive favourites like rosemary and thyme are hardy herbs and can withstand colder weather. However, remember to keep an eye out for them, especially if the temperatures drop to freezing, and protect them with a fleece or cover or even bring them indoors. A hallway or garage might also work with herbs like rosemary.

There are plenty of other herbs that can be grown indoors during winter. Mint is another festive favourite that’s great for garnishing various dishes or even to add to your mojitos. Herbs like sage and oregano will do well on a sunny windowsill
